SCA NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH ALERT – February 27, 2026

We had our first burglary of 2026!  A home in Arroyo Vista Village was burglarized at about 9:15 pm on Monday, February 23.

    1.       The owners were away at another home in California.  Monday night was trash night.

    2.       Break-in was through the slider at the back of the home.

    3.       The home had no video doorbell, video surveillance cameras, or alarm systems.

    4.       The home did not give the appearance that someone was at home.

    5.       A home safe was stolen.

There are several important lessons to be learned:

    1.       Take extra precautions when away.  About half of SCA burglaries occur when the owner is out of town. Burglars look for clues that nobody is home, such as no trash bins out on trash night, newspapers or packages in the driveway, a home not well-lit with no signs of life inside, and no one answering the door (you can answer through a video doorbell).

    2.       Have security laminate on sliders and glass surfaces, which will make break-ins more difficult and may discourage a break-in.

    3.       Having video doorbells, video surveillance cameras, and alarm systems can alert you about suspicious activity or if a break-in occurs.  They do help solve crimes and may have a deterrent effect.

    4.       Give the appearance that someone is home by having the home well-lit, with interior lights on timers, and TV or other sound on.

    5.       Be sure your safe is adequately secured or is not small enough to be carried away. Otherwise, you are just packaging your valuables for take-away.”

Was it a small safe…like a hotel safe.  Was there any damage to the home?

Janis, contact Patrick or Don at the links in the article, I’m sure they can answer those questions for you.
