While oleanders are toxic so are a number of other plants such as Sago palms. It is reported that there are hundreds of oleanders growing in the backyards of SCA already. Animals don’t eat the leaves as they are very bitter.  Thus where you see oleander growing you do not find dead animals.  If you have a concern for you grandchildren or pets the…[Read more]

Read the Henderson story of the ship here. It is chronological. It served anti-submarine warfare duty during the Vietnam War 1965-1968.

Rebates will only cover a portion of the costs for the removal of the turf.  Further the rebates are paid after the work is completed and may not be paid for 6 to 10 months.   The contractor who does the work expects payment upon completion of the work.  The costs beyond turf removal will also include the removal of trees (many of which are al…[Read more]

Mr. Orth is entitled to his opinions.  Unfortunately, when he is challenged on one issue he then drops it and moves on to another.  In this case, it is now that an out of state law firm wrote the Declaration of Covenants and Easements.  The question is so what!  Many out of state law firms will write Articles of Incorporation and other legal doc…[Read more]

I would like to respond to Mr. Orth and his misinformation on the Anthem Community Council (ACC).

First, neither I nor anyone else on the Board of Directors of Sun City Anthem voted to provide the ACC with $15 to $20 M over a ten-year period.  The Sun City Board of Directors does not vote on what is the business of ACC.  ACC has put forth a $15 t…[Read more]

When I ran previously I stated that I would support a restaurant if I could be convinced that it would not become a losing proposition that would continue to grow each year.  While the current agreement shows a diminishing net loss over the first four years, it then becomes revenue neutral in year 5.  Further the agreement serves to incentivize t…[Read more]

As requested I am happy to share my President’s Report with your readers.

It is with great pleasure that I can tell you that a BAI was approved by Sandy Seddon to hire a firm to develop a plan and cost estimates for the conversion of the bocce ball courts to pickle ball courts at Liberty Center. In addition, this firm will write the RFP for…[Read more]

    Anthem Community Council

I want to encourage readers to attend the next quarterly meeting of the Anthem Community Council that is now scheduled for February 17 at 3 pm at the Anthem Center.  I will be there to voice some of my concerns regarding the need for better updated information on their website.  In particular they need to have more t…[Read more]

One of the major projects for Anthem Council this year has been tree trimming and removal.  The red ribbons on trees mean that they are dying, dead, or severely diseased and are scheduled for removal.  The green ribbons on trees mean that they are healthy trees, but are needing to be trimmed.  Trees with no ribbon mean that they are fine.

As I stated yesterday, I would be back today to more fully explain at least my reasons for voting to retain the Clarkson Law Group as the Association’s general counsel.  The Board issued an RFP for a general legal counsel last spring, because a number of board members were not that happy with CLG (I was one of those individuals) and wanted to see…[Read more]

    Hi Rana:

Sometime, I believe in June representatives from the CoH (police, traffic engineering, and a representative of the Mayor) met with management at SCA.  I sat in as a representative of the Board.  At that time we had a broad discussion regarding a growing concern among residents about traffic and pedestrian safety.  Prior to the me…[Read more]

Several comments.  A number of people have commented on the removal of center median plants extending from Atchley and then south past Merrimack Valley on Anthem Parkway.  The removal of the center median plants were done by an order from the City of Henderson to improve line of sight for those trying to turn off or on Anthem Parkway from Red V…[Read more]

I am pleased that Rana’s column has generated this interest in the Anthem Council.  No matter what you believe about Anthem Council, it is important that residents understand what Anthem Community Council is about, how it is a legally structured, and the relationship of it to the six HOA’s that contribute to the Council.

    The council has seven…[Read more]

I wanted to clarify the last part of a great article regarding the $87,000 for light poles. What has been explained to me is that Del Webb insisted on having the concrete aggregate light poles that now exist all around the Anthem loop.  The agreement then with the City was that they would maintain the street lights as they would on any other…[Read more]

Stephen Anderson replied to the topic This grassy Area is Not a Dog Park in the forum Where I Stand 2 years, 2 months ago

Thank you Rana for raising this issue once again.  I believe that the last proposal for a dog park was to locate it on the west side of Independence Center between it and the entry drive into the Anthem and Independence Centers.  As I recall, it never got approved because people objected to having it next to the entrance to the two Centers.
