I have on many occasions been frustrated, for one reason or another over the fact that, Henderson is a “so called suburb” of Las Vegas, although it is also a city on its own as is North Las Vegas.

As residents of Henderson we have no say in what happens in Las Vegas. Nor do we in North Las Vegas since they and Henderson are separate cities with their own governments.

An item in the 12/23/2024 morning Review Journal brought my frustration of that issue boiling to the surface of my mind once again on that day. Although I am not a veteran member of any USA arm of the military, I am a staunch advocate of any veteran or member of any branch for all they do and have done during their service.

I am also a supporter of Tunnels to Towers, a non-profit group who have built homes and facilities for veterans starting just after 9-11. They have now been attempting to get a zone change to do the same across the street from Veteran’s Services in North Las Vegas. However, “the powers that be” in that city has denied that request since they want the land, which has been vacant for a very long time, saved for commercial use.

Isn’t it time that “services to benefit our military veterans take preference to” maybe” a commercial builder will one day come along?

I would love to hear your feelings on this matter and will also be recording and posting a Podcast soon on Thevegasvoice.net

I thoroughly agree with you. I have been contributing to them for years because of the wonderful work they do for our first responders and vets, particularly disabled vets.

As someone who worked in the World Trade Center in the 1970’s, the destruction and loss of life on 9/11 had a horrible effect on me. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is in the memory of Steven Sillers, a New York firefighter who ran through the Battery Tunnel, in full gear to be with his unit. He was killed in the collapse of the Towers, along with 342 other fire fighters. His brother started the foundation in his memory.

With all the good they have done, why would NLV deny them the use of the land?

I also agree with you.  As an individual who spent over  41  years taking care of veterans in another state, I have been appalled at the way veterans and first responders have been treated by corrupt  politicians and greedy corporations.  Even today veterans often get poor care in institutions who should be giving them outstanding medical care.
