Our Veterans Deserve far more than this!
I made the error of thinking my war on guardianship was behind me these days but that must have been a dream I just woke up from!
The VA, and the Justice Dept. now have plans to place veterans, including the homeless ones, who cannot care for themselves with public guardians.
At the risk of repeating myself once again, here are the things a guardian, (including public guardians, who by the way are paid by the state, have full control of) Any and all funds (including social security, savings, pension, etc.) held by the “protected person” ( they are not referred to as wards any longer) visitation with family and friends, choice of where they are to live, absolutely every aspect of their lives.
The publication, Stars and Stripes announced that “this effort will extend to some veterans who are homeless, or at the risk of homelessness but lack family support or legal representation.”
It looks like The Vegas Voice along with it’s publisher, Dan Roberts and myself are back at war with this system. Having a guardian is to PROTECT a person who cannot care for themselves due to age or health related issues and/or disabilities….. This is not meant to be, although for many it is, a means to rob “the protected person” of any and all “things that are theirs” including freedom of everything any person is entitled to in any free country of the world.
More on this topic to follow in addition to a petition that will shortly be placed.. Stay tuned, I’m at war again!
