The case AGAINST Michelle Sharples for SCA Board

    By Robert Stern

As you know I support and endorse 4 of the 5 candidate openings in favor of James Mayfield, Clara Lau, James Sypitkowski and Martin Maxey.

Let’s look at the field to examine the 5th open seat. Nona Tobin and Doug West who I both know and respect, for this election cycle will not be serious contenders nor vote getters. That leaves Katrina Heath and Michelle Sharples. One of them is going to be elected. I have been lobbied extensively by a number of people I respect to support Katrina who does have some history of issues but anyone worth their salt in an HOA does.

So if you feel the need to support a fifth candidate and cast all your votes then it’s either Katrina or Michelle.

And here’s where I come out. I am so against Michelle Sharples and here is why.

While Michelle is articulate, organized and apparently a good entrepreneur she would not make a good board member to protect your best interests and the proof is right before your eyes.

She served on the highly credentialed Restaurant Committee and clearly from her presentation you could tell she knew what she was doing. She’s one to pay attention to detail and sell herself and her company’s services. She is well spoken and sharp. But if she is so slick how is it possible that the draft contract with Masterpiece Cuisine was so abominable? Not one financial person I know in the community supported that very bad deal. So why did Michelle? According to one source, when she was asked, she said she had no idea what was in the deal. Are you kidding me? Well if that is true is that the kind of board member you want? I don’t.

And her buddy, Shawn Hicks, chair of the Restaurant Committee and chair of the Elections Committee and moderator of the forum yesterday and point person on the bad restaurant deal, protected her.

It smells folks. That’s right! As articulate, smart and organized Michelle is, her candidacy doesn’t pass the smell test. Don’t judge the book by its cover. Something is off.

So if you feel that you must cast your fifth vote, I would support Katrina over Michelle but for me protecting a new board majority leads me to cast only 4 votes. It’s the safer and smarter strategy.

James Mayfield, Clara Lau, James Sypitkowski and Martin Maxey will become the core of a common sense board majority if you elect them. That choice is yours.

    Until next time…Robert
