Rana Goodman
KeymasterBy Steve Anderson, President SCA Board of Directors
Good afternoon. I will keep my remarks brief today. It has been a very frustrating past month with all of the delays to our major projects. In her report today, our COO will address the delays to the Yorktown Grill, pickle-ball courts, theater light and sound, and the cell tower construction. I can assure you that the board, management and staff and our contractors have all performed admirably and have done everything they could know about in completing these projects on time.
In any project the unexpected pops up at the last minute due to things beyond our control. We could point blaming fingers at people or repeat phrases such as “SNAFU” or “If anything can go wrong it will.” The mark of good leadership is to dig in and make lemonade out of lemons. This is what we are doing by giving club and committee leadership the opportunity to come next week to the Concord and Bristol rooms to experience an event the wonderful Western Golf staff have created for us.
Western Golf will utilize their staff that will work at the Yorktown Grill, and you have a chance to taste the wonderful food they are prepared to offer at the Yorktown. For those attending It will be a way for you to see what you can expect and to have a good time. More importantly it is a way to train Western Golf staff and to give them some income while they wait for the restaurant to open and stay employed with Western Golf. A flat fee of $20 for the catered event will be charged and it is our hope that you will tip the serving staff generously. Those attending will also have a chance to tour the restaurant.
I want to call your attention to a number of meetings coming up in August that I want to urge you to attend.
TOWN HALL TALK
Monday, August 7, 1:30 to 3:00 in the Delaware Room.
Barry, Bruce, and I will be hosting a Town Hall for all residents on Monday, August 7, at 1:30 pm in the Delaware Room. Remember these are an opportunity for you to ask questions and raise issues with us.
One of the topics that has been emerging recently has been the question whether we will ever have another community garage sale and/or parking lot sale. We are beginning to have discussions about doing each of those but with some changes. Some individuals participating in the community wide garage sale have done really well and others less so. One of the reasons for success was pointed out by an individual who talked about knowing how to use social media to highlight what she had to sell.
Successful marketing was a key point raised. Maybe some members who have those special skills could volunteer to conduct a workshop or two on how to better utilize social media to have success selling at a garage sale. If you have thoughts about both types of sales, we want to have your input. The meeting is not restricted to this but could be a starting point.
MORNING MEET UPS
Councilman Dan Shaw – Thursday, August 17, 9 am at Liberty Center
Councilman Shaw will be hosting a Morning Meet up on Thursday, August 17 at 9 a.m. at the Sun City Anthem Liberty Center, 2211 Somersworth Drive. Enjoy your favorite breakfast treat and chat with your Council representative. Get answers to your questions and learn about what’s happening in your area.
This announcement is contained in the report from the City of Henderson which is in the Board Book. This report will give you updates, and project start dates for a number of upcoming road projects that will be sure to make you life easier.
RESIDENT BUDGET PRESENTATION MEETING
Monday, August 21, 1:30 to 4:30 in the Delaware Room. The meeting will be chaired by our Treasurer and our CFO.
This is the really big meeting where you can come and have a copy of the proposed 2024 Budget, learn what is contained in the budget, understand the primary budget categories, and make comments about the budget prior to the adoption of the budget at the September Board Meeting.
My two quotes for the day are again from Erma Bombeck. The first is more serious and in the category of being so true and the second is to just make you laugh.
“It seemed rather incongruous that in a society of super-sophisticated communication, we often suffer from a shortage of listeners.” ~ Erma Bombeck
And to make you laugh.
“Cleanliness is not next to godliness. It isn’t even in the same neighborhood. No one has ever gotten a religious experience out of removing burned-on cheese from the grill of the toaster oven.” ~ Erma Bombeck
