In my report today, I would like to address several issues with you. The first is to report on the Community Service Committee for which I serve as the Board Liaison. This is a committee that I hope all of our residents know about.

The committee is completely staffed by a large number of very dedicated volunteers who handle requests for light home maintenance that includes the replacement of your ceiling furnace filters; replacement of light bulbs both inside and in your outside address lights; and the replacement of batteries in your smoke detectors.

Their durable medical equipment group can provide you with a walker, rollator, cane, wheelchair, transport chair, knee scooter, toilet risers, and more. This equipment is delivered to you and picked up by volunteers.

The support group section provides a bereavement support group, Friends of Bill W., care giver support group, and others. The transportation group of volunteers will provide transportation within our local area for residents who are unable to drive to health-care appointments, local grocery stores and the three SCA community centers. Last, but not least, they will provide information on fee-based, discount and other services to residents in the community.

The Community Service Committee wants all residents to know that they have a new logo that features a pair of hands holding three people surrounded by the words Community Service Committee. The colors of the new circular logo are blue and green.  You will see this logo on all of their web and print material and also on their new van that is scheduled to be purchased from reserves in 2024.

I want to recognize and thank Sun City Anthem resident Larry Orlov, who has finished more than four years as a Director, Treasurer and President of the Anthem Community Council. Larry served as an at-large member and provided a SCA second representative on the Anthem Community Council.

Through his leadership and dedication to working collaboratively with ACC members, a number of positive steps were taken in carrying out his mission. At the end of his term earlier in the month, Larry announced that he was not putting his name forward for nomination to the open at-large director position on the Anthem Community Council. As Larry moves on, all of us at SCA wish him the very best and a hearty thank you for his leadership on Anthem Community Council.

Last, I want to address the status of the WHG proposed annual Yorktown Grill business plan for 2024.  As per our contract with WHG, SCA is to receive on an annual basis, on or before August 15, a proposed business plan for the next calendar year.

As has been previously explained, WHG was given an extension to the end of October to provide us with this plan. This extension was provided due to the late startup of the restaurant and the desire to have as much data as possible to prepare a reasonable and realistic budget. The contract calls for the proposed annual business plan to include the following information:

    1. Proposed recommendations for maintenance, repairs, and upgrades for the restaurant.
    2. Marketing strategy and plans.
    3. Listing of Vendor Contracts.
    4. Copy of Vendor Contracts.
    5. Proposed annual budget.

I can report that we have received the proposed annual business plan and will place the plan on the December meeting agenda for approval. Once approved, the plan will be made available to all residents in the financial section of our website.

Rather than submit them at this meeting, the Board wants the opportunity to meet with WHG to seek clarification, request greater substance and have questions answered about the plan. Further, the board wanted to have time to thoroughly discuss and understand the plan prior to bringing it to a vote. There was not enough time to do this for this meeting.

    Announcements of upcoming meetings:

Budget Ratification Membership Meeting beginning at 5:30 pm today in this room.

Community Workshop on five-Year Capital Projects Plan. Monday, December 11 at 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. in the Delaware Room

December Board of Directors Meeting. Thursday, December 14 at 1:30 in Freedom Hall

Last, I extend a heartfelt wish to every resident for a grateful Thanksgiving.  Let us share the richness of our lives with others and give thanks for all that we have been blessed with.

“To speak gratitude is courteous and pleasant, to enact gratitude is generous and noble, but to live gratitude is to touch Heaven.” Johannes A. Gaertner Professor of Art History at Lafayette College, poet, artist, author, and theologian. From: https://www.countryliving.com/food-drinks/g2059/thanksgiving-quotes/

Let us all aspire to live gratitude by sharing this day with family and friends, but also to reach out to share what we can with our neighbors, people in our community and around the world who live in need of the kindness of others.

    Stephen C. Anderson, President

Sun City Anthem Board of Directors
