Rana GoodmanKeymasterMike Catallo, incoming chair of the Finance Committee asked for this to be posted. It is explosive and I ask you post as well.
On Page 75 of the current Board Book, is a Board Action Item requesting approval of almost $60,000 for construction drawings and engineering services for an addition to the Anthem Center.
The stated purpose of the 1,368 square foot addition is to provide office space for the Facilities Department staff as well as additional conference room space.
Under NRS Section 116.345 (2), no addition to any of our buildings can be made without the approval of a majority of homeowners and residents living within a 500-foot radius of a proposed building addition.
Not surprisingly, almost $7,000 has already been spent having plans drawn up and submitted to the City of Henderson despite the Board not having received the required approval.
In addition, rather than follow the standard procedure of mailing ballots to the homeowners, Facilities Department staff went knocking on doors last week to get the ballots signed.
Editor’s note: I still have not received my ballot and when I called the office on Monday I was told quite a few other people had not received their ballot and I would have to wait for the office to call me and let me know when I could come to the office to pick one up….. I’m still waiting and under these odd circumstances I will not be using the electronic means of voting.
Now, the Board seeks to ram through another $60,000 of costs without homeowner approval. The ballots that were mailed or handed out failed to provide any information about the likely cost of the addition, but a reasonable estimate would be $400,000 to $450,000.
With our Reserves in severe need of funding, spending over $500,000 from our AEF funds is inexcusable. Please let the current dysfunctional Board know that enough is enough. Stop the madness and demand they do not approve any more wasteful spending of our money.”
