In 2017, the Nevada legislature made an attempt to change the name of McCarran and failed miserably.

Once again, this has come up and if you oppose this name change, I urge you to send an email to the below address and naming the individuals in the email as outlined in the correspondence.

Here is some information regarding the late Senator Pat McCarran as well as the current proposal:

    See the sample below.

Just another example of making an attempt to rewrite history.

    Don’t let them do this.

Please feel free to forward this to your friends and Nevada neighbors.

Here is a sample email for your convenience.

Do’t allow history to be changed.

I oppose the renaming of McCarran Airport for the following reasons:

Our country is now very divided.

To name the airport after the current leader of the Democrat Party will add fuel to the fire.

Our residents are already politically exhausted and should not be subjected to this unnecessary and polarizing event.  This would also anger tourists coming to Las Vegas.

Destroying statues, renaming public places, demonizing historical figures to pacify a few has swept our country.  We are not California and should know better.

Senator McCarran contributed greatly to the success of modern day Nevada.

He is the reason we have Nellis Air Force Base.

He is the reason Basic Magnesium Plant was built and the reason we have the City of Henderson.

He is the reason the Air Force is its own branch of the service.

He required the U.S. Mint to produce silver dollars in support of our mining industry.

    He championed worker’s rights.

He co-authored a bill that led to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Derogatory recollections have emerged rather recently.  They appear to be amplified to support a political favor.

It would be expensive and confusing.  With the current budget shortfalls in government and in residents’ pockets this is an unnecessary expense to taxpayers and the private businesses linked to the airport.

There is no benefit to this action.  It won’t make people happier, more prosperous, more proud of their public officials….nothing.

Additionally, a bill introduced in the 2017 Nevada Legislature to do this renaming was, according to a July 3, 2020 Review Journal article, “the second most unpopular bill proposed during the 2017 legislative session with 3,151 public comments against renaming McCarran and only 63 public comments in favor”.

I sincerely ask for you to oppose renaming McCarran Airport.

Please pay attention to the voters and the individuals who openly and overwhelmingly opposed this name change less then 3.5 years ago.

    Sincerely,
