    SCA Neighborhood Watch Program
    Resident Update – November 15, 2023

    By: Barney Wintermute
    Big Sky Village NW Facilitator

Crime Report through November 15: The year 2023 continues to have very low criminal
activity! Through November 15 SCA has had only nine burglaries or attempted burglaries. That is an annual rate of 11 burglaries. For reference, we averaged 24 burglaries each year from 2018-2022.

The WHERE, WHEN AND HOW of the 2023 burglaries are shown below. Keep up the good work — If you “See Something, Say Something”. Call 911 for a crime in progress, or 311 for suspicious activity. The HPD is currently experiencing a staffing shortage, and they really appreciate that SCA residents are their eyes and ears in the community!

Neighborhood Watch Program 2024 Leadership: The proposed NWP Leadership slate for 2024 has been finalized and will be voted on by the 23 SCA villages at the next meeting of the Village Leaders on November 16. That slate is: Pam Buck, Randall Conkright, Donna Fouste, Lennard Grodzinsky, Joanne Joyce, Don Manning, Mike Messenger, Cathey O’Connell, and David Stroud.

If you know of anyone who would like to self-nominate to serve on the NWP 2024 Leadership
Team, contact Don Manning at don.manning@cox.net .

    Annual NWP Meetings:

The annual NWP village meeting schedule for 2023 is shown below.

Anyone who missed the meeting for their village may attend the last meeting on December 5.

October 4 Big Sky, Golf Mesa, Meadow Vista, Overlook, Ridgecrest
October 9 Desert Sky, Pinnacle, Shadow Canyon
November 7 Canyon Crest, Tall Mesa, Westridge
November 15 Arroyo Vista, Black Mountain, Clubhouse, Fairway, Foothills, Hillside
December 5 Southridge, High Mesa, Highlands, Model, Mountain View, Valley View
Meetings are held at 4:00 pm in the Delaware Room. All SCA residents are invited to attend any of the meetings.

Need for Village NWP Leaders: We need NWP Leaders in the following villages:

     Black Mountain Village
     Pinnacle Village
     Valley View Village

Without NWP Leaders to send out information to their village residents, such as this NWP
Resident Update, these villages will not be kept informed about SCA NWP activities. If you
would like to learn more, just send an email to Don Manning at don.manning@cox.net . It is
    not a lot of work!

Next meeting of the NWP Leadership Team and Village Facilitators:

On Thursday November 16 both the Leadership Team (1:00 pm) and the Village Facilitators (2:00 pm) will meet in the Arlington Room. At the Village Facilitators meeting the NWP leaders of the 23 villages will elect the NWP Leadership Team for 2024.

Thanks for being “Neighbors Looking Out for Neighbors” and helping to keep Sun City Anthem
    safe!

The WHERE, WHEN and HOW for the SCA burglaries in 2023

The year 2023 continues to have very low criminal activity! Through November 15 SCA has had only nine burglaries or attempted burglaries. For reference, we averaged 24 burglaries each year from 2018-2022.

 WHERE did they occur? High Mesa (2), Tall Mesa (2), Westridge (2); one each for Golf Mesa,

Pinnacle and Foothills; 5 of 9 were homes backing on open space (golf course, desert, main
road); Lesson: Take extra security precautions for the back of your home if your home backs
on open space, especially good lighting, cameras and security laminate for glass surfaces.

 WHEN did the 9 burglaries occur? 4 of the 9 burglaries occurred when the owner was out of
town; 4 occurred during evening hours; 1 occurred when the owner was out for lunch.
Lessons: Take extra precautions if you will be out of town (home cameras, neighbors
watching, secure safe, Community Patrol house check); Burglars will bang on the window at
night to see if anyone is home — CALL 911, MAKE NOISE, TURN ON LIGHTS — let them
know someone is at home! Same goes for daytime at front door.

 HOW did the burglaries occur? 5 through windows (a couple were unlocked!); 1 through
open garage door (stole the Mercedes!); 2 through glass panels on doors (security laminates
needed). Lessons: Lock doors, windows, garage doors & vehicles; have security laminates
    for glass doors & windows
