    SCA Neighborhood Watch Program
    Resident Update – June 15, 2023

    By: Don Manning

Crime Report through June 14: The year 2023 continues to be favorable (knock on wood!). Through June 14 we have had only six burglaries or attempted burglaries, and no vehicle crimes have been reported. Perhaps we are getting the reputation that SCA is not a good place to commit crimes. However, criminal groups will certainly increase their activity in the coming months, for vacationers and vacant “snowbird” homes. Read the June Spirit article about precautions to take when you are away from home. Especially for vacant homes, if you “See Something, Say Something” and call 311 for suspicious activity.

Call 911 for a crime in progress or a threat to personal safety. Summer travels: Many SCA residents will be leaving for a getaway from the summer heat. Shown below are tips on securing your home for summer travel. The HPD has a 10-digit emergency number 866-473-4911, that you can call if you observe a break-in occurring at your property while you are away and want to have the HPD respond.

HPD response to a home break-in alarm:

HPD will respond to a home break-in alarm only if there is visual confirmation that a break-in is occurring. That would be viewing it with a home camera or someone seeing it in person. If your video surveillance shows a break-in at your home while you are away, call the HPD at 866-473-4911. If there is just an alarm set off, that alone would not cause them to send out an officer.

The alarm company may respond to an alarm on their system, depending on the contract with the homeowner. Welcome New Residents: Check the Windemere Anthem Real Estate News insert in the June Spirit magazine to see which homes have sold in your neighborhood. Be sure to welcome our new residents and sign them up for the SCA Neighborhood Watch Program. You can get the names of the new owners by checking the Clark County Assessor’s Database at https://maps.clarkcountynv.gov/assessor/AssessorParcelDetail/site.aspx .    You can then check the SCA Resident Directory to see if their email address or phone number is available.

    Reporting crimes:

I check the HPD website daily for SCA crimes that have been reported to HPD. However, it sometimes takes a few days for the HPD to post crimes. If you are aware of a burglary or theft that occurs in SCA, please let me know as soon as possible. I can then issue a community-wide alert about the crime, if appropriate. HPD Inspirada Substation:

The following is from HPD Captain Anthony Branchini: “The tentative plan is to start the next police academy there in July and then staff it with two squads in August. We are hopefully going to staff our dispatch center there by fall with the station being fully operational sometime next year. A grand opening date has not been discussed, but it will be publicized when it is and I will ensure you will be notified.”
