CRIME ALERT
There was a burglary in Fairway Village the night of December 12. The owners were away for a few days. The burglar broke the glass in the master bedroom door. Jewelry and cash were stolen from the master bedroom closet.
The house was not well lit. There was no security laminate on the glass door. There was video surveillance of the back yard, but the owner could not contact HPD to advise of the break-in. The home had a burglar alarm, but it was not activated. The valuables in the master bedroom closet were not in a secure safe or hidden.
This is the season for burglaries and thefts, so take extra precautions. Porch pirates are active, and burglars are watching for folks to leave home for travel or shopping.
Some thoughts relevant to this burglary:
- Keep the exterior of the home well-lit and have interior lights and sound on, especially when away.
- Motion-sensitive lighting can deter burglars at night, especially in the back of the home or when vehicles are left out in the driveway at
- Sound or motion-activated alarms can be a deterrent — be sure they are
- Lamination on all glass doors and windows can deter
- Security screen doors can deter entry by burglars
- Video doorbells and backyard cameras are important to Video surveillance can notify you when there is suspicious activity or a crime is occurring while you are away. HPD will respond if the crime is being observed on video.
