IS DAN SHAW – STILL UNDER FEDERAL INVESTIGATION?

Dan Shaw is the “Ward” 2 representative to the City of Henderson City Council. All of Anthem is in “Ward” 2, and hence is our representative to the City Council.

SCA represents the largest voting block in Ward 2. It is important that residents are aware that the Nevada legislators have changed the rules so that only the voters of each Ward can vote only for those running for election to their ward .

The following statement is from the headlines of the January 24, 2023 Review Journal:

“Feds look at loan business Interest rates at Henderson councilman’s operation.

“A Henderson city councilman’s payday loan business is under scrutiny in federal court, after two class action lawsuits alleged its lending license through a Native American tribe with interest rates above 700 percent, recent court records show.”

Mr. Shaw’s name is identified in later paragraphs.

Mr. Shaw was appointed to his position in June of 2019, and elected shortly thereafter. He, if he decides to run, is up for reelection in 2024. I have had major problems with Mr. Shaw for several years – he refuses to meet with me or answer my emails. Mr Shaw is scheduled to speak at SCA on August 17.

Since the February 24  RJ article, I have tried to obtain some update on that investigation. However, the COH and the RJ, to the best of my knowledge, have not provided any updates. It is my intention on August 17 to see if I can provide any additional information for your readers.

Mr. Anderson. Since you have become the president of SCA, I have not, for obvious reasons, attended any committee or board meetings. But I do plan on attending the August 17 meeting. You may, or may not, want to advise Mr. Shaw of my attendance.

    Mr. Orth

I am pleased to see you raise this point.  After reading the initial RJ article, I also have been wondering about the outcome of the federal investigation of Mr. Shaw and his loan business.  I certainly support you in your efforts.  I certainly feel no need to advise Mr. Shaw of anything.  He represents this Ward and needs to be accountable to his constituents.  Even though you and I may disagree on a number of issues, I am always happy to meet with you if you wish and to answer your emails.  That to me is a matter of respect.

Whether I am President of SCA or not I would always invite you to attend any committee or board meetings.  When I first arrived at SCA and started going to board meetings I always found you there and making comments during those periods. Thirteen years later I expect no less from you in asking questions and in making suggestions.  I am happy to hear that you are attending the meeting with Dan Shaw on August 17, and I hope you can get some answers for all of us.

    Steve,

The following was sent to me by a subscriber, hopefully it will make clear the changes being made to our Henderson Wards due to voter residency count in each.

    Rana: Please note;

It was a ballot initiative that the people of Henderson approved of in which people in each ward, could only vote for a candidate in that ward only. There is a plan to revamp the lines again. Carrie Cox, Ward 3, would lose all of Lake Las Vegas, thus putting much of her Ward in moderate to lower income areas. Ward 1 and Ward 2, ours, would have those with the highest incomes. There is now a 5% increase of people in some ward/s and lines need to be redrawn.

The City Council recently voted in favor of Plan 1 of the two plan options for redrawing the city wards.  In the next election voters in our Ward 2 will be voting only for who the Ward 2 representative will be.

The maps are contained in the attached link below:

Below is the link to the RJ article that discusses the recent vote of the City Council to adopt Plan 1. The article contains the current ward map and then those of Plan 1 (adopted) and Plan 2. The next city election will be the first one for us to vote for a council person solely elected by the voters of Ward 2.

Here is the RJ article that discusses the recent vote of the COH Council to approve the ward boundary changes. In the upcoming election it will be the first time for us to vote specifically for a person who would be elected only by the voters of Ward 2.
