So far in 2022, Sun City Anthem has had 31 burglaries. At this rate, 2022 burglaries will be about 40% higher than the average for the years 2018-2021. We need to up our game, as many of these crimes could be prevented. Here are the three lessons learned from crimes that have occurred this year:
- CAMERAS, CAMERAS, CAMERAS!
More homes need to have cameras, such as video doorbells, motion-sensitive floodlight cameras, and interior home cameras. If you must leave your vehicle in the driveway overnight, have a motion-sensitive floodlight camera overlooking the driveway. Be sure it is working and you can retrieve recordings. Cameras deter crime and also help HPD solve crimes.
- MAKE IT KNOWN SOMEONE IS AT HOME:
If someone bangs on your door or window at night, call 911, turn on lights, and yell. If they think nobody is at home, they will break in. The same applies during the daytime. If someone knocks, let them know someone is at home, but do not open the door or go outside.
- WHEN YOU WILL BE OUT OF TOWN,
Take extra precautions to secure your home. Safeguard your valuables with a secure safe or well-hidden location. Video surveillance is even more important when you are away! Have neighbors watch out for suspicious activity.
