Rana GoodmanKeymasterThink About Your Henderson Vote With Care
To my neighbors living in Sun City Anthem, please carefully consider your vote as you pass by all those signs around town, why? here are some of my concerns, what are yours?
If you drive around Henderson’s streets. Take a moment to glance around at the amount of tumbleweed and other unsightly weeds growing taller each day, is no one from the city in charge of the clean up department?
Should you enter the 215 freeway at Green Valley Parkway you might see that the tumbleweeds on the left were finally, after months cleaned away while the bunches lining the right side grow larger each day. Anyone would think it was not a windy city here so there is no worry about the wind blowing these destructive weeds in front of traffic.
Closer to our Anthem home, we hear from another’s blog that two round-abouts are due to be installed in here. And yet for the last few years many of we residents living in Big Sky Village, and those with homes in Solara (as one begins to approach Wild Iris Street) have been begging for a dangerous traffic solution from the City to no avail.
We believe we urgently need to curb the incredibly fast flowing cars whose drivers cannot wait to get to the challenge of the steep hill approaching Bicentennial. Many of our seniors walk that area and at certain times of the day they wait impatiently for the fast moving cars to give them enough time to get across the street….. None of us up here have “time” to waste these days!
How about, what might just be the least, but workable way to solve it. What about a 4 way stop sign, since the city claims stop light are just not affordable.
(I must add a comment that fascinates me each and every time I head down Eastern Avenue) why, in heaven’s name, were two traffic signals installed less that three car’s length from each other. In both cases, one side of Eastern exited from a parking lot, while the other side led to a small group of residential homes.
My other “puzzlement” question is, after months of tying up traffic on Eastern doing road work why does the surface black top still look desperately shabby like it has not been repaved for years?
This is a new topic regarding not only our Henderson expenditures but also Clark County. This is a topic I know well, since I was, in the past, in the sign business.
I wrote to Michael Naft a while ago and made note of the lettering on signage across the 215 had lettering giving directions to travelers falling off the large green signs overhead.
I pointed out to Mr. Naft that wo ever was contracted to do that signage was “ripping the City off.” You see, there are two qualities of vinyl letters for signage, one for simple everyday signs on posters, banners and such. However, for metal signs, especially in our climate, it is a whole other ballgame.
When producing Metal signage lettering one must use premium vinyl since it is much thinner and as it sits in the sun day after day, the vinyl literally bakes onto the sign itself. Yes there is a difference in cost, however the premium will outlast the other by years.
These are some of the things that, in my humble opinion as a senior retiree, need careful watching. That is the way government of any kind spends our money. If spent frivolously, our pocketbooks, in one way or another is going to have to cover it!
Enough said! For now, anyway…. AND WHAT SAY YOU ALL?
