This morning as I picked up my morning paper I was greeted with very sad news, Former assemblyman, teacher, also known as “Gentle giant” and friend, Harvey Munford passed away yesterday.

When I first began going to the Nevada legislature as a non-paid lobbyist, one of the first people who befriended me was Harvey Munford. We must have looked pretty funny when we walked around the building, Harvey standing 6’8” tall and me, all of 5’1 but one of the things I have never forgotten is how he proved to me that Nevada, even in our legislature, is still a small town and that building is most definitely “the people’s house.”

Assemblyman Munford, from our very first meeting, was welcoming, urging me to “come in, grab a chair, and tell me what I can do for you.” At that time I was trying to change some stringent rules concerning HOA rules that were very anti-homeowner. He gave me one heck on an education back then, as did a few other friends I made “way back then.”Each session, when I would stop by to say hello, he would greet me with “oh not another HOA bill” and a huge warm smile. Over the years my focus changed to more senior issues, and the trips up north to Carson City didn’t seem the same with my friends “on both sides of the aisle” changing, but the fond memories of the friends I made there will never be forgotten, most of all the kindness of many of the legislators who took the time to listen and assist those of us needing help like Harvey Munford……

    Rest in peace my friend.
